Wales make official announcement on Leeds United gem Charlie Crew
Charlie Crew has been called into the Wales senior squad despite not yet making his first-team debut for Leeds United.
The 17-year-old midfield gem is named (Wales X account, 29 May) alongside Ethan Ampadu, Dan James, Connor Roberts, and Joe Rodon in the Welsh selection for the upcoming friendlies with Gibraltar and Slovakia on June 6 and 9 respectively.
Crew was named on the substitutes bench on three occasions this season but has yet to make his senior bow for the Whites.
Charlie Crew joins Leeds United Wales contingent on senior duty
It is a sign of how highly rated Crew is that he has earned a senior international call-up despite having yet to make a senior appearance in domestic football with Leeds.
The teenager is very well thought of at Elland Road and you get the sense that with another season in the Championship on the horizon that he will make is breakthrough at Elland Road next season.
In the meantime, he might get some senior minutes with Wales with games against Gibraltar and Slovakia a great opportunity for boss Rob Page to take a look at some new faces after they agonisingly missed out on Euro 2024 qualification.
There will be plenty of familiar faces to keep an eye on Crew during the international camp too, with Ampadu and James involved, as well as loan stars Rodon and Roberts. There really is a very strong West Yorkshire feel to this squad.
