Viktor Gyökeres to Leeds United ‘short-sighted’ amid recent transfer links – Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has brandished Leeds United links to Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres as “short-sighted” with Premier League survival being the main focus.
According to TEAMtalk sources (21 February), the Whites are plotting a move for the 24-year-old this summer after previously being linked in January.
However, Robinson has suggested another striker is not a priority after the arrival of Georginio Rutter for a club-record fee in the January window.

“I don’t think he’s a player they need to look at [Gyokeres], they’ve just signed Rutter for a club record £36million,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“They’ve got Patrick Bamford and they’ve got Rodrigo who is injured. It’s very short-sighted to look beyond the end of this season. They don’t know what players are going to be there should they be in the Championship or Premier League.
“He’s a good player [Gyokeres] and he’s scored a lot of goals this year and I like him, but at the moment you can’t link any players with Leeds.
“They were playing with one striker before and everybody was saying they needed some cover for Patrick Bamford. Now he’s fit he seems to be playing every week and the club’s record signing has hardly kicked a ball.

“In that area, they now have three players who are able to play in that position. Should the lad become available in the summer or Leeds are in the Championship and the situation changes it’s something they can look at.
“I find it very difficult to speculate on Leeds’ transfers when you don’t know where they’re going to be.”
The Swedish striker has scored 16 goals and registered five assists so far in the 2022/23 campaign for Mark Robins’ side.
He is contracted to the Championship club until the summer of 2024, and it’s understood Coventry are holding out for £25million (Alan Nixon, official Patreon page, 30 January, 11:55).
In other Leeds United news, the club are now leading the race to sign an in-demand young attacking talent from a European giant.
