View: Leeds United must turn attention to Fabio Carvalho after Brenden Aaronson blow

Leeds United may have suffered a big blow in the race to sign Brenden Aaronson in the January window.

According to journalist Claudio Mauri, RB Salzburg are unwilling to negotiate a deal for the midfielder, despite Leeds offering £20million for his signature.

A fresh move could be made in the summer window, but for this month, Marcelo Bielsa should quickly switch to plan B.

The bid for Aaronson shows once again that a) there’s money available and b) the Leeds board are willing to back Bielsa if the player is right.

With that in mind, the plan B target should be Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho who is reportedly being tracked by Leeds, Liverpool and West Ham [Daily Mail].

The 19-year-old has less than six months left on his contract, and it’s the ideal time to get him on a bargain deal.

If not, throw in a decent amount of money and take him to Elland Road ahead of other rivals. The highly-rated attacking midfielder has been superb in the Championship.

According to a report from The Sun, it could take a bid of around £5million to secure the signature of the “incredible” Fulham talent.

He has netted four goals and registered one assist in his last three appearances, and he is in red-hot form.

While one might argue that the Whites should sign someone who is a like-for-like replacement of Kalvin Phillips, the idea can be safely binned.

Adam Forshaw could return after the winter break and he is more than capable of filling the Phillips role.

It’s all about positional adjustment and Bielsa is a master of that. But getting a raw talent like Carvalho on a cut-price deal shouldn’t be wasted.

Keeping tabs on Aaronson now is like a wide goose chase. There’s no point. Urgency is required, and Carvalho stands out as the best option.
