View: Leeds United must move now for Nahitan Nandez
Leeds United must make a move now for Uruguay midfielder Nahitan Nandez with time running out in the January window.
According to latest reports from Calciomercato, Nandez is keen to leave Cagliari before the end of this month.
The report claims that Juventus could be his next destination, but the Old Lady have other priorities.
Earlier this month, Sardinia-based news outlet, La Nuova Sardegna, claimed that Leeds remain the only team in the race to sign the Uruguayan international.
The 26-year-old would cost in the region of £20.8million and Cagliari are willing to offload him.
The likes of Juventus and Napoli are looking to sign on loan with an option to buy him permanently in the summer. Leeds should follow a similar strategy.
Having missed out on Brenden Aaronson, Leeds should switch attention to the plan B option, and Nandez would be a good fit.
It’s an open secret that the Whites need to sign a midfielder. While getting a like-for-like replacement for Kalvin Phillips would be difficult, Leeds could look to sign a box-to-box midfielder instead.
With Adam Forshaw more than capable of playing as a defensive holding midfielder, it will allow Nandez to involve more in advanced play.
There’s an issue here. Marcelo Bielsa generally loves to wait for the player he wants, and that means the Whites will be more than happy to wait for Aaronson till the summer.
However, sometimes you need immediacy. Leeds are in a difficult situation in the league, and this is not the time to be stubborn and adhere to lofty ideologies.
While Juventus dither, Leeds must hijack the deal for the midfielder who is desperate to change clubs.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay issues a major January update amid recent development that would certainly be exciting for the Elland Road faithful.
