Victor Orta has admired Brenden Aaronson for a while, Leeds really like him

Leeds United director of football Victor Orta is a longtime admirer of RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, according to Yorkshire Evening Post.

The USMNT international, 21, was the subject of a £15million bid from the Whites, and while it was knocked back, they remain keen on bringing him to Elland Road having identified him as a top target for the January transfer window.

Leeds are solely focused on Aaronson, but with over two more years still left on his current contract, the Austrian giants are not in a rush to sell.

The west Yorkshire outfit have not added a senior central midfielder to their squad since Adam Forshaw arrived in January 2018, and it appears they are resolved to finally make that addition four years later.

Aaronson is earning rave reviews in Austria, and the fact that Leeds are ready to spend more than £15million on him speaks volumes.

Despite being a central midfielder for Salzburg, the youngster can also feature as an attacking midfielder and on the wings – positions he occupies for country.

His style of play would have convinced Orta and Marcelo Bielsa that he can come in and make an immediate impact, and their injury situation means such a move has become very crucial.

Aaronson boasts of loads of energy and is as creative as they come, and his work rate without the ball is another quality that should see him hit the ground running at Elland Road should a move work out.

For that to happen, Leeds will need to stump up more cash, and they could be left with no choice than to.
