Victor Orta could ‘jeopardise’ Leeds United as ‘undisclosed’ Elland Road scenario emerges

Victor Orta could “jeopardise” Leeds United after the Spaniard was appointed as Sevilla’s new sporting director on Monday, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s, Joe Donnohue.

Orta was sacked after Javi Gracia was relieved from his duties four games before the 2022/23 season came to a close.

The Spaniard will have been “privy” to information on players’ release clauses and wages and Donnohue has suggested this could provide a threat moving forward.

“The Spaniard was deeply embedded in transfer and contract negotiations with United and will have been privy to undisclosed information relating to the clauses, release fees and wages included in Leeds players’ contracts,” he wrote (YEP, 21 June).

“Any such knowledge will be deemed valuable by his new employers, reducing the amount of time in negotiations and the number of enquiries needing to be made when pursuing the hypothetical signing of a Leeds player.

“Unless stipulated in the terms of his Leeds exit that Orta could not use privileged information to a new club’s advantage, this could jeopardise United’s hopes of holding on to some of the squad’s more prized assets.”

Part ways

It’s best for all concerned for Orta and Leeds to keep their distance.

The Spaniard was lauded for the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa and unearthing Raphinha, but that’s as good as it got. Andrea Radrizzani placed far too much faith in him and that’s a big reason as to why Leeds are now in the second tier.

Had Radrizzani placed his faith in someone far less cavalier, there’s every chance Leeds would now be playing their football in the Premier League.

The 49ers would never have wanted someone like Orta working for them. He’s far too much of a maverick. They will be looking to make smart and sensible footballing decisions.

Nick Hammond is a good example. He has an excellent reputation from his time at Celtic and has already steadied the ship somewhat, with the managerial hunt set to be wrapped up in the coming days.

Daniel Farke appears to be the man leading the race for the Elland Road vacancy although Scott Parker is also being considered by the board.

In other Leeds United news, a comprehensive transfer update appears to have ended the chances of the club losing an “absolutely fantastic” talent to an imminent bid.
