Leeds United stance on Victor Orta revealed as Chelsea come calling - Sky Sports journalist
Leeds United are relaxed about Victor Orta’s future at Elland Road despite interest from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports News journalist Tim Thornton.
The Guardian reported via their website last Tuesday (20 September) that Chelsea are seeking permission to enter talks with the Spaniard as they aim to hire a new sporting director.
Thornton has detailed how popular Orta is behind the scenes at Leeds while also sharing the club’s stance on the future of their in-demand director of football.
“I think Victor, first of all, he’s really well thought of at Leeds. He’s quite influential at the club, he’s loved by all the staff, he’s a great character and he’s got a fantastic knowledge of players from all across Europe, from all across the world,” Thornton told GiveMeSport.
“When you’re somebody who’s got a good track record and you’ve done well, then you will attract interest from elsewhere. But I think Leeds are quite calm about the situation. Victor has been a big part of what Leeds have achieved over the last sort of few years.”
Depends on Radrizzani?
Orta’s job at Leeds should never be in doubt.
While there are some fans who’ll criticise the Spanish director of football for every bad performance once of his signings have made, they’re not looking at the bigger picture.
Leeds were a mid-table Championship club struggling to make the play-offs when he arrived.
Within one year at the helm at Elland Road, he’d hired Marcelo Bielsa and put together a squad that would go on to reach the play-offs, then win the Championship title and then finish ninth in the Premier League.
Most of our success in that period is down to Bielsa. But we would never have had him – or most of the quality players we’ve had since – without Orta.
Chelsea are well within their rights to be interested in him but Andrea Radrizzani cannot afford to let him leave.
The only way we see Orta going is if Radrizzani has ultimate plans to exit Leeds himself because if that happens, Orta’s job might not be so secure anyway.
In other Leeds United news, this Leeds player was blasted for his “bad” international performance on Monday by his nation’s press.
