Victor Orta bigs up Leeds United commercial success to Spanish media, Liverpool comparison made

Victor Orta has hyped up the television figures and shirt sales of Leeds United in comparing them to that of Premier League giants Liverpool.

The Whites’ director of football spoke to Spanish media during the club’s training camp in the country where Jesse Marsch’s side will play two matches.

The global reach of Leeds United has been growing exponentially year after year with the club’s recent return to the Premier League putting them in front of more eyes than ever before.

“Although someone doubted that Bragarnik was going to bring a top-level rival to this tournament, Leeds is the seventh team in Premier League television audience, the fourth in jersey sales, the one that buys the most tickets from visiting fans and the second with the second highest percentage of attendance at its stadium, only surpassed by Liverpool; that opinion proves to be banal and sheer ignorance,” Orta said to Onda Cero.

Moving forwards

The more the club can stay in the Premier League, the better things will begin to look for Leeds and Orta can be at the forefront of the surge towards being among the nation’s elite.

There is still a huge amount of work and progress to make both on and off the pitch before the Whites can be considered as good as the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur before reaching the Manchester clubs and Liverpool at the very top of the reputation table.

But things are still moving forward despite a narrow relegation scrap last season and if Orta can continue to work his magic then they will get there in the end.

With a fanbase the size of Leeds’, the club should be looking to be among the likes of Newcastle United as a one-club city at the very least in the very near future.

All of these goals are certainly achievable but one small setback can easily put the brakes on it all and that could see Orta come under pressure.
