Victor Orta and executives in Leeds United talks as manager news drops

Victor Orta held talks with numerous potential new managers over the weekend as Leeds United look to close in on their next manager, according to the Guardian.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [14 February, pg 40] that Orta was not alone as executives of the club joined the Spaniard in holding talks.

Alfred Schreuder was one of those, but he will not become the next manager at Elland Road with a short-term solution now increasingly likely it seems.

Writing in their latest column, the Guardian reported: “The Leeds board held discussions about potential candidates for that role yesterday with just about the only certainty being that Alfred Schreuder will not be Jesse Marsch’s successor.

“Schreuder, who lost his job at Ajax a fortnight ago after seven games without a win, was one of a number of managers to have had conversations with Victor Orta, Leeds’ director of football and his fellow executives over the weekend.”

Brickwall.

That appears to be the only thing that Orta is hitting right now, with nothing seemingly going right for Leeds as they look for the man to keep them in the Premier League.

Not many in the stands at Elland Road trust the Spaniard after his massive hit-and-miss record on appointments such as these and his transfers, so hopes aren’t exactly high right now.

Leeds clearly went into this search with the arrogance that it would be easy, but after being rejected by three or more names already, a reality check is needed.

That may be their realisation that they may need to appoint a short-term option until the end of the season, although that also will be seen as desperate.

The Whites have got this horribly wrong since the departure of Jesse Marsch, and someone is going to be needed to held accountable should it backfire in the Premier League.

Don’t screw this one up, Victor.
