USMNT make statement on Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson

Brenden Aaronson was absent from the United States squad on Thursday night with the nation confirming he experienced “flu-like symptoms”.

Aaronson has been a key component to Daniel Farke’s side so far this season and the international break should have provided him with an opportunity to continue that form.

However, the talented attacking midfielder was absent from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for their encounter with Jamaica and an update was provided on the US Soccer website prior to the game (14 November).

The update read: “Aaronson experienced flu-like symptoms and did not travel to Jamaica. He is currently in St. Louis and will be joined by the team tomorrow.”

Brenden Aaronson could be key to Leeds United promotion hopes

Aaronson is a player with immense ability that, prior to this season, hadn’t been able to showcase it on a consistent basis.

However, since his return to Elland Road in the summer, he has been a key figure in the Leeds team and his creativity from midfield has proven crucial in several of the Whites’ encounters.

In 13 starts, Aaronson has registered five goal contributions in the Championship, four of which have been goals with his most recent coming in Leeds’ 3-0 hammering of Plymouth Argyle.

Having only failed to make the starting XI on two occasions, his importance in the side is echoed by Farke, who sees him as one of the first names on the team sheet each week.

The USA international had previously set himself a target of 30 goal contributions for the Whites this season and his start has certainly put him on the right track to achieving that.

In other Leeds United news, Ethan Ampadu has shared that Ilia Gruev has been the teammate who has helped him the most during his “lonely” recovery from injury.
