US women's legend Carli Lloyd slams Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams after Netherlands defeat

Carli Lloyd slams Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams for his fatigue as the United States bowed out of the World Cup.

The 23-year-old captained the Americans but they went down fighting and lost 3-1 on 3 December.

Adams was particularly called out for letting Memphis Depay run and not track him which saw the Dutch side score the first goal in the game.

Lloyd, a former United States footballer, took to Twitter to write, “He’s been a machine. Covering so much ground but you shouldn’t be that fatigued at age 23. If your training is 5x more than what games entail you can play through a 7-game tourney and still have more left in the tank. The deeper you go, the more mental it becomes to power through.”

One bad moment

Adams has been so good the entire tournament that he set the bar extremely high with his performances.

Against the Netherlands, there was no denying that the 23-year-old did not look the same energetic and tireless player we’d seen over the two weeks.

On the ball, he may have been good, but off it there was a clear drop in quality and he probably did not have much left in the talk.

He should’ve tracked Memphis’ run but looking at it again, he’ll be the first one to tell you that he should be doing better there.

Adams deserves all the praise he’s gotten over the past few days and one mistake does not take away from that.

Hopefully, he gets a decent amount of rest before he’s ready to go again for the Whites once the season resumes.

The 23-year-old is one of the first names on the team sheet for Leeds and his stock has certainly risen after this tournament.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now scouting an attacker at the World Cup and a January move appears to be on the cards for them.
