United States media not impressed by what Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson has done
Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson started for the United States against Panama in the early hours of Sunday (13 October) and the US media has been left largely underwhelmed by his performance.
The 23-year-old started in Mauricio Pochettino’s opening game as manager of the Stars and Stripes in a 2-0 win in Austin, Texas.
Goals from Yunus Musah and Ricardo Pepi secured victory in the friendly, with the Leeds man garnering mixed reviews from national media.
This saw NBC Sports rate the Whites’ midfielder a 6.5, saying: “Typically frenetic, at times anxious, but ran his shorts off and had some fantastic moments on the dribble and in distribution.”
Despite this, USMNT legend Alexi Lalas was less pleased with the ex-Union Berlin loanee, who said via X: “Aaronson produced very little creativity”.
It appears that the best attribute Aaronson offered was his enthusiasm, with Goal.com’s US website adding: “Got in alone a few minutes before halftime, but saw his shot saved. As usual, a lot of energy and pressing, which is something the new coach will surely appreciate.”
Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson gets mixed reviews for USMNT v Panama
The attacking midfielder has proved a lot of supporters wrong with his performances in the opening nine matches of the Championship season.
This has seen the former RB Salzburg ace become an important player under Daniel Farke, contributing with two goals and an assist so far this campaign.
It doesn’t appear that these performances have carried from Elland Road to the international stage after an average showing against Panama.
As always, the Leeds man was energetic in the midfield which is likely to impress his new manager Pochettino moving forward.
It will be disappointing to Aaronson that he couldn’t get on the scoresheet or at least grab an assist to show his qualities to the former Tottenham and Chelsea boss.
Leeds fans will just be happy that the 23-year-old never picked up an injury to add to the woes that Daniel Farke is dealing with right now.
