Update emerges on ambitious Leeds United bid to hire former Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo

Leeds United reportedly deem former Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as “too expensive” in their quest for Jesse Marsch’s successor.

According to the Telegraph [14 February], the Whites were in an “ambitious bid” to lure the Portuguese away from Al-Ittihad in the middle of the season.

However, they are now likely to miss out on yet another manager as news emerged that he’s got a £5.3million release clause.

For the best?

Nuno plays an extremely pragmatic style of football and he would not be well welcomed by the Leeds hierarchy as they’ve been accustomed to an attacking brand of play.

At Wolves, he did well but was at a club that had the influence of powerful agents and that saw them sign Champions League level players in the Championship.

At Spurs, he failed to live up to expectations and was sacked just after a few months into the job and Leeds should not take an expensive gamble on him.

It remains to be seen how Michael Skubala does in his interim position but the Whites still need to continue their hunt for a permanent manager.

Hopefully, they find someone suitable in the coming days or weeks as Skubala until the end of the season will represent a gamble.

There have been talks about Pedro Martins and his title-winning pedigree could be just what Leeds need to get out of this mess.
