An unnamed former player has spoken about new Leeds United’s new managerial appointment Javi Gracia and said players will want to “run through brick walls” for the Spaniard.

The West Yorkshire outfit announced the former Watford coach as their new manager [21 February] following the sacking of Jesse Marsch and their struggle to appoint many of their top managerial targets.

And an unnamed player speaking to Daily Mail [21 February], described the Spaniard as a people person, a genuinely warm, friendly and generous man and that the Leeds players “will want to run through brick walls for him.”

Decent appointment

After two weeks of much frustration and disappointment in appointing Marsch’s successor, the Whites board seem to have finally found the man to actually take on the job and deliver on their expectations come to the end of the season.

Despite his sacking in 2019, Gracia proved a success story with Watford keeping the club up during the 2018-19 season and also leading them to an unprecedented FA Cup final appearance.

A manager who has been said to desire a close relationship with his players and is highly adaptable to the type of players he possesses, Gracia could now represent the club’s best chance of beating the drop.

The club desperately needs direction, structure and discipline right now, especially on the pitch and Gracia who is known for bringing such a fresh and welcoming approach to his job may prove just the candidate Leeds finally need to move forward.

Suddenly the club’s chances of avoiding the dreaded drop have significantly increased after arguably making a crucial and decent decision.
