Unhappy Nadiem Amiri ‘reformed’ after Leeds United transfer ‘prank’ as he seeks £2.6m exit

Nadiem Amiri has “reformed” in the wake of his summer “transfer” antics which saw a switch to Leeds United fail, according to Kicker.

The German magazine reported via their website on 3 November the Bayer Leverkusen wants to leave the club in January and has now decided to “forego family influence on his decisions in the future”, which is considered the reason for his “prank” on the Whites earlier this year.

The 27-year-old changed his mind repeatedly over a move to Elland Road and even visited to the club, before angering the Whites hierarchy when he pulled out a final time.

Amiri has only made four Bundesliga appearances off the bench in the dying minutes for Xabi Alonso and is thought to be available for as little as €3million [£2.6m] in January as his contract is up at the end of the season.

Too late

There is surely virtually zero chance that Leeds United reconsider a move for Amiri given the runaround he gave them in the summer.

It hasn’t worked out particularly well for him since as he has become an afterthought under Alonso, and it sounds like he probably regrets the way things went.

He will have to hope that his flip-flopping over a Whites switch hasn’t scared other teams off ahead of the winter window, even if it was at the behest of his family.

Daniel Farke could arguably still use a player like him in the squad given he is continuing with the set up that is using Joel Piroe as the number 10, to fluctuating results.

But the manager has surely had more than enough of dealing with players who weren’t committed to his project to last him at least the rest of the season.

There appears to be a valid argument to switch summer striker signing Piroe for Georginio Rutter, who has been outstanding and often builds moves from deep anyway, but for now Farke seems to have decided the system isn’t broken enough to require fixing.

In other Leeds United news, there is a new upset risk to a star man at Elland Road as a teammate gears up to leave the club.
