‘Unexpected nightmare’ – Bitter news outlet slams player’s decision to join Leeds

Spanish news outlet Fichajes have slammed Diego Llorente for his decision to join Leeds United from Real Sociedad.

In a report focusing on the former Real Madrid youngster, editor Miguel Angel de Miguel Casas brands his move to Elland Road an ‘unexpected nightmare’, saying: “The reality that Diego Llorente has lived since his arrival has been very different from what was expected, since the Spanish central defender has hardly had opportunities to prove his worth, remaining out of the call in practically each and every one of the games.”

He goes on to explain how neither party have really benefitted from the transfer, with Llorente featuring just once in the Premier League so far.

Meanwhile, Sociedad are also said to be missing the qualities of the Spaniard in the heart of their defence as they push for Champions League qualification in LaLiga.

Far too early to judge

To say that the report is harsh is an understatement.

Llorente arrived at Leeds with an injury and just as it looked like he was getting back up to full fitness, he was rushed into action against Chelsea.

Marcelo Bielsa even admitted prior to the defeat against Chelsea that he did not want him in the starting XI so soon.

Had Robin Koch not gone down injured against Chelsea, Llorente may not have been pushed back into action and things could have looked very different for the Spaniard.

In fact, what Leeds supporters did get to see of Llorente against Chelsea was particularly promising.

According to Wyscout, Llorente completed 100% of his slide tackles, won 80% of his aerial duels and only gave the ball away three times in his own half.

Having been thrown on suddenly against a then-inform Chelsea attack, there were flashes of brilliance from the Spaniard and the best is surely yet to come from Llorente.
