‘Unbelievable’ – Senior Leeds player taken aback by one thing after Thorp Arch return

The Leeds United players returned to training this week in the first step of a long return back to Elland Road and skipper Liam Cooper has said they are in ‘unbelievable shape’.

The players have been kept on strict programs while they’ve been on lockdown and have been weighing themselves and sending in photos every day to prove they’re keeping in peak fitness.

And it looks like that is set to pay off for Leeds, who were arguably the Championship’s fittest side ahead of the enforced break.

Talking to Leeds Live on Monday, Liam Cooper sad that the Leeds players were in “unbelievable” condition and that they were “raring to go”.

“I was quite surprised at the standard considering the lads haven’t been able to do technical work for a while,” Cooper said.

“The delivery was good, the passing was good and the lads have come back in unbelievable shape.

“The fitness coaches are surprised at how good a shape we’ve come back in. We’ve not stopped. All the lads have bought into it. We’re raring to go.”

The Leeds players came back in groups with new striker Jean-Kevin Augustin wowing the fans with a new hair colour on Tuesday.

This is exactly what Marcelo Bielsa will be looking for and while some players at other clubs are moaning about returning to the pitch, Cooper and his teammates are simply “raring to go”.

Leeds have started the last two seasons like a rocket under Bielsa and this is effectively a mini nine-game season now with promotion the massive reward.

If the Leeds players are still top of the fitness pile then there’s no reason they can’t come back and pick up where they left on.

That’s such a long time ago it’s worth repeating where we left the season – five straight wins without conceding a goal.

That sort of form could see Leeds secure promotion way before the season actually ends, something we’re desperately hoping for.

We’ve had enough drama this season to last us a lifetime.
