‘Unbelievable’, ‘Pure class’ – Luke Ayling & Barry Douglas blown away by national news story

Leeds United defenders Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas have been full of praise for Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United star convinced the government into a u-turn.

Rashford had been campaigning for school children who are currently receiving free school meals to continue to do so throughout the summer when they would normally be off school.

Initially, Boris Johnson’s government was going to end the scheme but after coming under pressure from Rashford, the scheme was extended into the summer.

Ayling and Douglas took to their Instagram stories to react to the national news story.

Ayling said it was “pure class” by the England international while Douglas simply dubbed the story as “unbelievable”.

Even though Rashford plays for one of our biggest rivals – who we’ll hopefully be playing against in the Premier League next season – you have to admit he has done amazingly well to get the government give in to his campaigning.

Footballers probably don’t realise how much of an impact they can have on society due to their status and hopefully Rashford’s work on this will lead to more footballers standing up and making a difference in the future.

That doesn’t mean that players aren’t doing enough already. A lot of their charitable work goes on behind the scenes and we’re not going to tell anyone what to do with the money they have earned.

But seeing something as inspirational as this is bound to have an impact in the long-run.
