‘Unbelievable’ – McCoist makes Leeds PL claim, one thing needed to take game to ‘another level’

Leeds United have turned heads since arriving back in the Premier Lague after 16 years in the wilderness.

They’ve played arch entertainers, scoring seven goals and conceding seven in just two games.

They were on the right side of a 4-3 scoreline this weekend, getting their first points of the season after holding on against Fulham.

Ally McCoist has been left impressed at what he’s seen and said that Leeds’ high-tempo football is “absolutely unbelievable” and has made them the team to watch in the Premier League.

Talking on the Breakfast show on talkSPORT (Monday, 7am), McCoist said, “That was some game, that Leeds game. I thought it was all over at 4-1. I went to make myself a cup of tea. Then all of a sudden it was 4-3 and I thought, ‘Aye, aye!’… It was a great game.

“Leeds are the team to watch.”

Back on the subject of Leeds later on (9am), McCoist doubled down and said Bielsa’s fast-tempo football is “unbelievable” to watch.

He also said that getting fans back into Elland Road would take their game to “another level”.

“They look a different prospect to the other promoted sides,” McCoist said.

“It’s very early on in the season, but they will create chances and score goals.

“They do play the game at an incredible tempo. It’s absolutely unbelievable to watch.

“They have to be and are unbelievably fit. Bielsa works them incredibly hard in training. To maintain that level of fitness takes an awful lot. So, from a Leeds’ point of view, it will be difficult to maintain it but I think they can.

“Hopefully, in the near future, we’ll get fans back because that will drive them onto another level.”

Let us entertain you

Leeds United fans will be wondering what’s going on.

Last season Leeds often struggled to score – especially Patrick Bamford – but had the best defence in the league.

This season, they’re clinical and Bamford is looking like a different player.

However, the defence is a worry. Conceding seven goals in two games is a problem, no matter how entertaining the football is.

The new partnership of Liam Cooper and Robin Koch is still bedding in so we’re happy to be patient but Leeds are obviously missing Ben White at the back.

Conceding goals against Liverpool is one thing but Fulham are odds-on for relegation and Leeds simply have to be tighter in front of goal.

Still, three points from two games, one against Liverpool, is a solid return and Leeds have the chance to take more points from Sheffield United next week, with Chris Wilder’s side struggling.
