Tyler Roberts shares ‘upsetting’ injury update as bad news emerges for Leeds United loanee at QPR

Leeds United loanee Tyler Roberts has revealed that he is set for an extended period on the sidelines at QPR, sharing “incredibly frustrating and upsetting” injury news.

The Wales international, who temporarily swapped Elland Road for Queens Park Rangers this season featuring just 18 times, has endured his fair share of injury issues over the past few seasons.

A calf injury ruled him out of a place in Wales’ World Cup squad earlier this campaign and a subsequent issue picked up while playing for The R’s in January has also sidelined the Whites loanee for months.

Having been tipped for a return to action in February, the Welsh striker took to social media [as transcribed by LeedsLive, 7 March] to provide a worrying update on his recovery.

He said: “So last week I received news that my injury was not as close to healing as first expected.

“This was incredibly frustrating and upsetting as I worked so hard to come back and be the best version of myself to help the team, but now with this setback, the time being on the sidelines has increased.

“As a footballer this is the most low and depressing time you can have. I will continue to walk by faith and work just as hard to hopefully be back out there soon.”

Frustrating

There was a time when Roberts was one of Leeds United’s most important players under former boss Marcelo Bielsa. How big a difference a couple of years in football makes.

This is hugely frustrating news for a player who has been ravaged by injuries countless times throughout his career. It was because of his constant injury trouble that terribly affected his form in a Leeds United shirt, stopping him from performing at a high level regularly.

Hopefully, this new setback doesn’t derail the player’s confidence in himself and his ability because he still has a lot to offer at Loftus Road.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Welshman still has a future at Elland Road considering his contract runs out in 2024. He will certainly be sold in the near future, but any long-term injury trouble will most likely derail that too which means Leeds could well waste millions if they struggle to offload him.

A huge blow for both the club and the player.
