Tyler Roberts makes choice between Gareth Bale and 'special' Leeds talent
Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts has claimed that Elland Road teammate Pablo Hernandez is a “special” talent.
The 21-year-old hitman heaped praise on the Spaniard, arguing that he had done “a lot of great things” for the Whites.
But given a direct choice between the 35-year-old and international teammate Gareth Bale, the youngster admitted that he would have to go with the Real Madrid player.
Roberts has registered six caps for Wales since making his debut in 2018, and was quick to hype up the Champions League winner – despite his love for Hernandez.
Speaking during a Q&A shared via the club’s official Twitter account, when asked to choose between the two playmakers, Roberts said: “I’ve got to go with Bale.
“Pablo is a special player and he’s done a lot of great things.
“But Bale is just in a different world to most players in the world – so yeah, Bale.”
To be fair to Roberts, as much as we love Pablo, we’d be tempted to go with Bale too.
The Welshman is one of the finest players of his generation, and has won just about everything there is to win at club level in Spain over the course of his career.
That being said, this season the gap between the two players hasn’t been that wide at all.
Over the course of the campaign, Hernandez’s pass accuracy has only been 0.4% lower than Bale’s, while his dribble success rate has been 2.6% lower, and his crossing accuracy has been just 0.1% lower, as per Wyscout.
Perhaps most surprising, however, is the fact that Hernandez’s total action success rate has been 5.2% higher.
On second thoughts, maybe the tricky Spaniard deserves a little more credit, and if he can fire Leeds back to the Premier League over the next few weeks we’re sure nobody at Elland Road – Roberts included – wouldn’t swap him for Bale anyway.
