Tyler Roberts issues update on Kalvin Phillips injury as Leeds United star set for Thursday scan

Kalvin Phillips is set for a scan on Thursday afternoon (9 December) as Leeds United wait to find out the extent of his injury.

That’s according to teammate Tyler Roberts, speaking in an interview aired via talkSPORT on Thursday (9 December).

“He’s got a scan this afternoon,” Roberts said.

“I’m not sure if it’s anything severe or not, to be fair.

“If he is out then yeah, he’s obviously going to be a big miss, he’s one of the best midfielders in the country, but hopefully that’s not the case.”

Initial reports have set February as a possible comeback date for Phillips after he sustained a hamstring injury against Brentford on Sunday (5 December).

The issue caused the 26-year-old to be substituted and the Whites are now fearing a lengthy lay-off.

Hopefully, though, Thursday’s scan will show the injury is not as severe as first thought.

Losing Phillips for two months, which includes the hectic festive period, would be a massive blow for Marcelo Bielsa and his charges.

There is no like-for-like replacement at the base of his midfield while the England international has also been used at centre-back this season.

Indeed, it was thought by many that the Whites needed to sign another midfielder in the January transfer window to play in front of Phillips.

Now, they might need to sign one to replace Phillips for the foreseeable period.

It could be a busy month for Leeds chiefs as they aim to bring in some new recruits that will lift Leeds from their current lowly position, flirting with the relegation zone.
