Tyler Adams to return to Leeds United after Chelsea move collapses – Sky Sports
Tyler Adams is now “expected to return” to Leeds United as “talks have broken down” on a move to Chelsea, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via Twitter on Friday afternoon (11 August) that although the Stamford Bridge side had already triggered the £20million release clause in the American midfielder’s contract “the parties were unable to reach an agreement”.
The 24-year-old is now due to head back to the Whites squad and the move to the capital is off despite it looking imminent this week.
Sheth said: “Sky Sports News understands talks have broken down over Tyler Adams’ proposed move from Leeds to Chelsea after the parties were unable to reach an agreement.
“Chelsea had triggered the £20m release clause. Adams now expected to return to Leeds.”
Drama
The final weeks of the transfer window appear to be shaping up to be as unpredictable as ever and in this instance it has fallen in the Whites’ favour.
Fabrizio Romano had even “confirmed” the “here we go” on Thursday but amid extensive midfielder transfer developments involving Chelsea and Liverpool on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo it looks like that has scuppered Adams’ move to Stamford Bridge.
Daniel Farke would be delighted to get the USMNT captain back for the Championship season but he isn’t out of the woods yet amid a suggestion that Adams may end up at the Amex instead [Secret Scout, 11 August].

With Willy Gnonto apparently trying to leave and Max Wober having done so in recent weeks the Leeds United boss is going to find it impossible to say with any certainty who will be in his squad once the deadline passes.
It would probably be unwise to even rule out the Adams to Chelsea move entirely at this point given the speed with which matters have switched multiple times in the past few days.
Farke has also been trying to add to his squad in between all the chaos, but even that is proving hard to nail down in light of Max Aarons’ transfer collapsing at the last minute for a Bournemouth move.
On the face of it Adams heading back to Elland Road for now is a good step for the Whites, but what happens next could still turn out to be another blow.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in the race to sign a Premier League striker in the final weeks of the window.
