Tyler Adams stat testament to brilliant work by Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch at Leeds United
Leeds United summer signing Tyler Adams has proven to be the best at challenging and winning the ball back in the Premier League this season.
According to PFF Football, the United States international has the best challenge grade with a score of 93.9 while the second best, Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier, is nearly eight points shy.
This score essentially takes into account things like challenges from behind, slide tackles, shoulder shrugs and also standing tackles.
Adams was a relative unknown to the average Leeds fan before this summer and it’s since Jesse Marsch’s arrival, links to the former RB Leipzig midfielder began.
The Leeds boss has an exceptional talent ID and was vehement about bringing the 23-year-old to Elland Road as it was an important position to address.
The Whites did not have such an exceptional ball winner in midfield during the Marcelo Bielsa years and it was important that they signed someone who the rest of the market would not be looking at.
Victor Orta did a very good job to keep things relatively under wraps and discussions with Leipzig and Adams proved to be extremely fruitful and he soon became a Leeds player.
While Orta does get stick from fans sometimes, he must be lauded for this Adams signing as it’s very easy to say no to the manager.
Marsch was undoubtedly biased when he asked the club to pursue the USMNT player’s services but within the first two months, he’s being proven right and that’s a good look for everyone at Elland Road.
