Tyler Adams shares 'pleasant surprise' after 'amazing' support from Leeds United fans

Tyler Adams has been left surprised by the love and adoration he received from Leeds United fans.

The USA midfielder was superb during the World Cup campaign for his country in Qatar, where he produced an outstanding performance against England.

The Whites spent £20m to sign Adams from RB Leipzig last summer and he has since excelled for both club and country.

“It was really, really cool,” Adams told Yorkshire Evening Post.

“That support has been here since I arrived at the club which has been amazing to see – how much the fans appreciate myself and Brenden and a bunch of the new guys that have come onto the team.

“It’s been such a pleasant surprise to have this support week in, week out. I expected them to be rooting for England, especially in the game that we played against England! But for the rest of the games it felt as though they were supporting us so it was very special.”

Future captain?

Adams has been a major hit for the Whites since joining the club.

He has forged a strong partnership at the heart of midfield with Marc Roca, and there’s more to come from him.

The 23-year-old has shown great leadership skills, both on and off the pitch, in Qatar, and he is one of the candidates to become the next captain for Leeds.

Fox Sports pundit Stu Holden wrote on 26 November that Adams could quit Leeds in the summer transfer window.

He is a quality player and there will be interest from loads of Champions League clubs in the future. But, he is unlikely to leave next summer unless there’s a massive bid that can’t be turned down.

Adams needs to settle down at Elland Road properly and end the season on a high note.

Leeds have struggled badly in the Premier League in the first half of the season, but there have been encouraging signs in recent months.

The Whites will face Manchester City at Elland Road on 28 December in the Premier League.
