Tyler Adams set for Leeds United return from London after Chelsea transfer collapse – Phil Hay

Tyler Adams was already in London ready to complete his move to Chelsea but is now due to travel back to Leeds United “ahead of the weekend”, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported via Twitter Friday (11 August) that the move has “fallen through” and Chelsea are “no longer signing him” so he will now head back to West Yorkshire from the capital.

In his update on The Athletic’s website Hay added that the deal “hit a snag” despite the 24-year-old midfielder having travelled south to complete the deal, with personal terms not expected to be a problem and his £20million release clause set to be triggered.

Adams has been out injured since undergoing hamstring surgery which ended his participation in last season back in March.

Fallen through

Chelsea had been expected to try to sign both Adams and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo separately but it is impossible not to presume a link between the two deals now.

The Leeds United man looks to have been dropped at the last minute after Liverpool entered the race for the Ecuadorian and the level of money on the table for that deal shot up past £100m.

It may be that the Whites stand to benefit for now but there are still over three weeks remaining before the deadline, and the Stamford Bridge side have demonstrated the ease with which Adams could still be signed.

Leeds United

Amid links to others, including Liverpool, among multiple other Premier League sides Daniel Farke will be bracing himself for another assault on his squad this month.

The German is trying to juggle getting incoming business done when that is just as dramatic, after Max Aarons backed out despite already being at the club for his medical, with trying to keep key men from leaving.

In the midst of that he actually has to coach the players and win games while contending with an extensive injury crisis which has developed in record time for Leeds United this season.

Adams is on the way back for now but how long he will remain in place will only be certain if he makes it to September 2 and is still there.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites will make a “Championship fortune” to sell another key first team star says Adam Pope.
