Tyler Adams season looks over for Leeds United as American is ruled out of Arsenal clash - Injury analyst

Tyler Adams’ season looks like it could be over for Leeds United after having surgery on his hamstring, according to injury analyst Ben Dinnery.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday (28 March) that the USA midfielder had undergone an operation on the problem that kept him out of the 18 March win at Wolves, although the club has said it was “non-invasive”.

However, the expectation isn’t positive for the rest of the relegation battle, with Premier Injuries’ Dinnery suggesting the the 24-year-old’s campaign is over.

Dinnery posted on Twitter on Tuesday (28 March): “It looks like it could be season over for Tyler Adams who has undergone hamstring surgery. The #USMNT international was injured during training before the break.”

Over on the Premier Injuries website Adams has “no return date” and is definitely ruled out for the Arsenal game on 1 April at the very least.

There’s a reason that Adams has started every game he has been available for in the Premier League this season so his extended absence is going to leave a big hole.

It is surely time to bring Darko Gyabi into the fold after his summer signing from Manchester City, with Adam Forshaw also out injured and just Marc Roca and Weston McKennie as recognised midfielders.

Neither are exactly pressing machines like Adams, and while Sam Greenwood has featured previously under Jesse Marsch he is naturally a more attacking player as well.

Javi Gracia has done a good job since he came in with seven crucial points picked up in climbing to 14th, but the battle against the drop is so tight the club are still right in the thick of it.

He has another major challenge on his hands now to overcome the loss of a key man, as well as shorter likely absences to Max Wober and Willy Gnonto.

If he navigates his way through this and picks up points in the upcoming games then he will boost his claim to the Elland Road job past the end of the season considerably.

In other Leeds United news, lines of communication are open between the Whites and another club about an incoming deal but it could also increase the chances of an exit being negotiated at the same time.
