Tyler Adams returns to Leeds United after Chelsea transfer collapse amid verdict on ‘bad blood’ at Elland Road

Tyler Adams will return to Leeds United with “no bad blood” despite coming within touching distance of a move to Chelsea, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist reported via the outlet’s website on Friday (11 August) that after the Stamford Bridge move collapsed the Whites will “wait to see” if another club takes Adams off their hands, but there has been “no acrimony” with him at any stage this summer.

The 24-year-old midfielder had gone to London for a medical before Chelsea backed out of what was set to be a £20million deal for the American’s release clause, with him due to travel back to Leeds before the weekend.

Cross wrote: “However, the switch to Stamford Bridge will not happen and Leeds now wait to see if another club triggers the release clause before the end of the transfer window.”

“There has been no acrimony between Adams and Leeds at any stage this summer and he will return to Elland Road without any bad blood.”

The collapse of the Adams exit came just two days after a very similar situation with the incoming deal for Max Aarons from Norwich in what has turned into a dramatic week in the transfer market.

Reality

The club appear to have been viewing Adams’ situation from a realistic point of view this summer, knowing that he has a relatively affordable release clause.

The 49ers would especially like to have the captain of the USMNT in the squad going forward if they can, but the whole hierarchy will know that if a club pays the £20m there is little they can do.

If he has an option the size of Chelsea then most would understand the willingness to take it up compared to a season in the second tier, although it won’t please plenty of supporters who are growing tired of a squad which got the club relegated escaping for greener pastures.

There doesn’t seem to be any indication that Adams has been agitating for a move, but it is possible that may change given the same appeared to be true of Willy Gnonto before developments this week.

Whether Adams actually ends up remaining at Elland Road and featuring under Daniel Farke – he is currently recovering from the hamstring surgery that ended his previous season in March – remains to be seen.

Numerous other Premier League clubs have been linked and they may be sparked into action by the fact an opportunity is now back on the table when it appeared he was set to be snapped up by Chelsea.

In other Leeds United news, another bid has emerged from a Premier League side for one of the club’s star men.
