Tyler Adams details injury scare after Leeds United absence

Tyler Adams was absent from Leeds United training due to a calf knock which he sustained during the USA’s World Cup defeat to the Netherlands.

The 23-year was present at Leeds’ open training session at Elland Road but did not take part with the rest of the squad. Instead, Adams watched on, with the midfielder set to miss the Manchester City game due to suspension.

The American has since revealed that he is recovering from a “little” knock that he sustained during the World Cup in Qatar.

“I just had a little bit of a knock in the last game against the Netherlands, just in my calf,” he said (Leeds Live, 20 December).

“Just coming back from that a little bit, but not bothering me anymore. I feel good, feel sharp. I would be training, but Jesse’s saying take all the time you need if you can right now it’s an opportunity.”

Good news

This is really good news for all concerned to hear that Adams is fit and ready to go after his World Cup exploits for the USA. It appears the calf issue is well behind him and considering he’s suspended for the Manchester City game, it makes sense for Leeds to be extra careful when it comes to the 23-year-old’s fitness.

Jesse Marsch will look to call upon Adams regularly for the remainder of the Premier League season, and if he remains fit, the Whites will stand an excellent chance of avoiding a relegation battle come the season’s end.

Considering the way Marsch likes to play and how important the 23-year-old is, it’s absolutely essential that he allows him as much rest as possible to recover from playing four hectic games in Qatar.

Leeds still face some fitness issues with Patrick Bamford still being plagued with injury problems. If the striker cannot be relied on, the Whites simply have to add another striker in the January window.

In other Leeds United news, this player seems to be getting cold feet about quitting Elland Road.
