Tyler Adams could now become distant Leeds United memory as Glen Kamara transfer news emerge

Leeds United are finally closing in on a deal to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara which means former Elland Road star Tyler Adams could now become a much-needed distant memory.

According to the Scottish Sun (22 August), manager Daniel Farke has been “desperate” to bring the Finnish international midfielder in, and while he faces late competition still from Championship clubs, negotiations are now at an “advanced stage” between Leeds and Rangers.

Rangers are reportedly set to make a “bumper profit” on the former Dundee midfielder as he heads towards the exit door for £5.5million, who was brought in at Ibrox for just £50k back in 2019.

Farke has been desperate for some midfield reinforcement for weeks now and currently only has Ethan Ampadu, Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi as his current options on his first-team squad after Tyler Adams left Elland Road to join Bournemouth after a long and drawn out exit saga (LUFC website, 20 August).

Having had to name substitutes benches short of the full number and containing two goalkeepers more than once so far this term Farke badly needs the reinforcements.

Ampadu’s arrival in West Yorkshire has been absolutely crucial, as has Gray’s emergence, but the teenager who is still just 17 really shouldn’t be expected to lead the centre of the park for an entire 46-game Championship season.

Experience, European pedigree and maturity were needed before the transfer window shut and Leeds United have now all but finally got their man who has been a long-running target for a long while now.

Leeds United fans should not see Kamara’s situation at Rangers as a marker for him not being good enough to lead the midfield engine room at Elland Road because the Finnish international could represent a marquee acquisition, meaning the Whites fans can now forget about Adams and usher in a new era with Kamara at the forefront of their new and improved revolution under Farke.

With an all-action play style that blends a touch of quality with defensive steel, all the attributes are in place for this experienced stalwart to become the destructive and influential defensive midfield presence the club have been longing for since Kalvin Phillips.

£5.5m represents excellent business and after receiving around £20m for Adams, there is still enough left in the bank for the club’s new owners 49ers Enterprises to back Farke with new quality as they plan an assault on promotion to the Premier League.

For now though, Leeds United are on the brink of a marquee and statement new transfer in Kamara which now leads many to question, Adams who?

In other Leeds United news, the club want to sign another midfield target who has fallen out with his manager and is set to leave.
