Troy Deeney raves about Leeds star who ‘stood out’ above rest in dramatic draw vs Liverpool

Troy Deeney loved Anton Stach’s stunning performance during Leeds’ 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Saturday evening.

Hugo Ekitike’s brace sent the Reds into a 2-0 lead, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a penalty to set up a tense finale.

Stach then scored a brilliant goal to make it 2-2, before Dominik Szoboszlai’s composed finish left Leeds supporters feeling exasperated.

However, Ao Tanaka’s 96th-minute equaliser earned the Peacocks a deserved point, and they moved up to 16th in the Premier League table under Daniel Farke.

The German midfielder has been one of the more impactful summer signings at Leeds, and Deeney was hugely impressed with what he did against the reigning champions at Elland Road.

Anton Stach is proving his worth for Leeds

Stach has been exceptional for Leeds after making his move from £17.3million move from Hoffenheim in July, leaving a sticky patch behind after injury.

Deeney named Stach in his Premier League Team of the Week, and was impressed with how the midfielder took the game by the scruff of the neck.

He said: “He was the player who stood out for Leeds in their draw with Liverpool. The visitors were obviously cruising, but I looked at players and teams in that moment and looked at who was hiding.

“This guy turned it up – not only a notch but another 10 notches – scored a goal and got an assist.”

The 27-year-old cut inside to take the ball past Curtis Jones, before unleashing a near-post strike that left Alisson Becker helpless.

He has become a vital cog in Leeds’ new system, and he has already shown that he is capable of producing a moment of magic out of nowhere.

In Leeds’ 3-1 win away to Wolves, Stach’s superb curling free-kick sent the travelling fans into raptures as they recorded their first top-flight away win since their 4-2 win on the same ground in March 2023.

Stach’s could be in line for another Germany call-up, and his move to Leeds is certainly paying off at the moment.

Sean Longstaff’s calf injury has him out of action for the majority of the festive period, and Stach will have to make up for his impressive numbers on the ball.

Anton Stach has to play huge role in Sean Longstaff’s absence

Longstaff has been a driving force in the centre of the park, and his creativity in midfield has proved to be vital for Leeds.

The English midfielder has created 20 chances in the top flight, while completing 22 successful crosses.

While Stach has a higher total, Leeds are desperate for goals at the moment, and while Farke has found a solution with his 3-5-2 tactic, chances are still hard to come by in the Premier League.

The German midfielder is more than capable of making up for this deficit, and it’ll also be interesting to see how Tanaka continues to flourish during this absence.
