Troy Deeney raves about ‘excellent’ Leeds star after ‘huge’ developments at Elland Road

Leeds United sent a strong message to their Premier League relegation rivals on Friday evening with an impressive 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Whites and Forest were level on points going into the contest, both six points clear of the bottom three, but there was a gulf between the two sides on the night.

Jayden Bogle opened the scoring for Leeds, with Noah Okafor adding a second just four minutes later.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin chested in after the half-time break to put Daniel Farke’s side in dreamland, with Lorenzo Lucca’s late header doing little to change the atmosphere around Elland Road.

Troy Deeney picks out Jayden Bogle

Bogle has struggled at times for Leeds this season, and there have been sporadic calls for him to be dropped from the starting line-up.

However, the 25-year-old put in a superb performance on Friday evening, playing a big role as Farke’s side came away with a 3-1 win.

He even got involved in the goalscoring action himself, making a 50-yard darting run and latching onto the end of Ilia Gruev’s long ball to slot Leeds in front.

It was a sensational assist from Gruev, but Bogle showed great composure to finish first time past Stefan Ortega in the Forest goal.

Writing for BBC Sport, former Premier League striker Troy Deeney was very impressed by the Leeds right-back, including him in his team of the week.

Speaking about Bogle, Deeney said: “Excellent going forward, he has played a number of positions this season for the team, but I thought he was excellent in the win over Nottingham Forest.

“He was a real outlet down that right side, which is obviously huge for them and a massive three points for being safe and staying up.”

Leeds predicted to avoid relegation

After their win over Nottingham Forest, the Opta Supercomputer is now giving Leeds a 93.64 per cent chance of avoiding relegation this season.

Farke’s side moved nine points clear of the bottom three on Friday evening, but West Ham United have since reduced that gap back down to six, after beating Burnley 2-0 on Saturday.

However, the Whites are undoubtedly in a better position now than at the start of the weekend, three points ahead of Forest and level with Tottenham in the Premier League.

Given their form in recent months, Leeds will very much fancy their chances of avoiding relegation and retaining their top-flight status for another season.
