Troy Deeney makes new Leeds United promotion prediction live on Sky Sports
Troy Deeney has predicted Ipswich Town to be promoted to the Premier League ahead of Leeds United this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (10 April), the pundit questioned whether the Whites, Leicester City and Southampton can “adapt” the way they play as he insisted that the Tractor Boys have the ability in their squad to mix things up.
He added that the Suffolk club are “riding the crest of a wave” as they sit second in the Championship table, one point ahead of Daniel Farke’s side in the battle for promotion.
“I’m going to go with Ipswich,” said Deeney. “The reason why is, Leeds are going to come at you one way. The Leeds crowd expect you to win, they expect you to be on the front foot. I’ve been fortunate to play there quite a few times and get some decent results. If you sit in and hit them on the counterattack, all the pressure is on them, with and without the ball.
“If you look at Ipswich, they are one of the only few teams, especially at the top, that can play football, beat you up and do whichever way you want to do it. They’ve got enough off the bench and enough characters.
“They’ve got goals throughout the team, a style of play and a belief with the manager, the crowd and the new board, everyone has bought into what this club is all about and they’re riding the crest of a wave.
“We look at Leicester, can they adapt? I don’t think so. They are only going to play one way. Leeds are only going to play one way. Southampton are only going to play one way. When we’ve been promoted in the past, you have to mix it up.”
Leeds United still in hunt for promotion
It’s been a slightly disappointing couple of weeks for Leeds after they have now won just one of their past four games following their goalless draw against Sunderland on Tuesday (9 April).
It really isn’t the time for them to slip up after putting together an excellent run in this calendar year, but the teams around them are continuing to falter as well.
Ipswich drew 0-0 with Watford on Wednesday, while table-toppers Leicester lost 1-0 at Millwall on Tuesday to ensure all three sides are still only separated by a single point.

The Whites will still be confident that they can get back to winning ways following their performances in recent months as there are likely to be more twists and turns ahead in the next few weeks.
Farke will just be looking to keep things calm at Elland Road as his side are still in a strong position to secure an immediate return to the Premier League this season.
In other Leeds United news, Graham Smyth has shared a “serious” admission after the Whites posted their accounts.
