Troy Deeney makes ‘bold’ prediction ahead of Sheffield United v Leeds United
Leeds United travel to Bramall Lane on Monday night to face Sheffield United in what could be a title-deciding encounter.
Leeds face Sheffield United in the coming days, knowing that a win would massively boost their hopes of achieving automatic promotion.
As it stands, Daniel Farke’s side are in the driving seat for promotion but that could all change upon the conclusion of Monday night’s encounter with just two points separating the two sides.
A defeat for Sunderland on Saturday (22 February) all but ended any hopes of their own for achieving a top-two finish, leaving Burnley as the only team remaining with a chance to dethrone the Whites from the automatic promotion spots.
Championship top two | W | L | D | GF | GA |
Leeds United (72 points) | 21 | 9 | 3 | 68 | 20 |
Sheffield United (70 points) | 22 | 6 | 5 | 47 | 23 |
Winner takes all in Sheffield United v Leeds
Monday’s encounter with Sheffield United promises to be an exciting one but also has the potential to be a decisive one in the race for the title.
With just two points separating the teams, they enter the game knowing that a win could see them enter the final 12 games of the season at the summit of the Championship.
With that in mind, Deeney believes that the fixture could be the one that decides the title race.
Speaking on Sky Sports Football (22 February), Deeney said: “I think whoever wins will go on to win the league, that’s my prediction. No pressure.”
Leeds are certainly the favourites for the clash, but they will need to remain wary of the threat that can be posed by the Blades if they are to come away victorious.

Leeds may be one win away from promotion
Their encounter with the Blades will be their last against any of the other sides in the top four, while Sheffield United still have to face Burnley.
Given the fact both teams cannot pick up three points for obvious reasons, it presents an opportunity for Leeds to go even further clear from whoever occupies third place at the time of that fixture.
As it stands, Leeds have a four-point cushion on Burnley with a game in hand, though failure to win at Bramall Lane will make that gap seem far closer.
