Trio of experts leave underwhelming prediction for postponed Leeds clash v Derby

Saturday would have seen Leeds United travel to Derby County in what could have been the afternoon they secure the title or just promotion to the Premier League.

It would have been the dream of many Leeds fans to celebrate promotion at Pride Park less than a year after they tormented the Whites with their win in the play-off semi-finals.

With nine games left to play and Marcelo Bielsa’s men seven points clear, six wins before the trip to Derby would have guaranteed promotion was already secured.

Despite the cracking form of Leeds in the Championship, a trio of experts recently predicted that it would have finished 0-0.

A three-man panel made up of former Scotland international Tony Green, Liverpool’s record appearance maker Ian Callaghan, and former Manchester United utility man David Sadler made the prediction via Derbyshire Live using their so-called expertise.

It’s hard to imagine which tools they use to make their predictions but it seems strange to guess that Leeds wouldn’t score against a struggling side.

Take the meeting from earlier in the season, it may have been 1-1 but on another day Leeds could have easily have scored more than five.

Derby got lucky at Elland Road, and it is hard to imagine the same outcome if the game plays out the same way in which that one did.

Bielsa’s men kept 63.4% possession and completed 242 more passes at Elland Road as well as having eight more shots according to WhoScored – total domination and something Leeds will have been looking forward to avenging.
