Trent Alexander-Arnold reacts to 'strange' Leeds United display v Liverpool

Leeds United have been branded ‘strange’ by Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold after their clash at Elland Road on Sunday.

Liverpool ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in West Yorkshire with goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane.

In a video posted on Liverpool’s YouTube account [14/09/21], Alexander-Arnold delivered his verdict on the Whites.

“It’s always difficult to come here, [they’re] a strange team to say to the least, man-marking all over the pitch,” the 22-year-old said.

“[It’s] Difficult to find space but once you can it kind of opens up and you’re able to create chances and I think that’s what we did.

“[We] Could have been a lot more clinical and put the game to bed earlier and really probably score a lot more goals, but you never turn your nose up at a 3-0 win at Elland Road.”

Brave or brainless?

Inevitably, there has been criticism of Marcelo Bielsa and his methods following the defeat on Sunday.

Leeds are yet to record a Premier League win in four games this season, sitting 17th with just two points.

However, three of the sides [Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton] reside in the top four, and the former two are currently competing in the Champions League.

Therefore, it’s important to have some perspective of the defeats.

That’s not to say, as has been suggested in some quarters, that the Whites are a pushover for the ‘elite’ sides.

They drew 0-0 with both Manchester United and Liverpool last season, while they beat Manchester City 2-1 at Elland Road in April with just ten men.

Their season really begins on Friday, though, with a trip to struggling Newcastle United.

They also face West Ham and Watford before the next international break, and Bielsa will surely be aiming for at least seven points from those three fixtures.
