Transfer Deadline Day update emerges on Leeds United pursuit to sign Leicester City defender Harry Souttar
Leicester City defender Harry Souttar is keen on leaving the King Power Stadium, amid links to Leeds United, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The reliable news outlet reported in its transfer blog on February 1 at 11:03 am that as he’s away on international duty, a deal will be difficult to complete.
It’s also understood that the links to Elland Road may be agent driven rather than the Whites realistically keen on the Australia centre-back.
The report reads: “Leicester City centre-back Harry Souttar linked with Leeds this morning, although as far as we understand, a move for the Australian international is unlikely. Leeds are well-stocked at right-sided centre-back and Souttar is not one who could also deputise at right-back.
“Factor in the 25-year-old is also away on international duty at the AFC Asian Cup and that makes it a quite difficult transfer to complete. Player is evidently keen to exit the King Power Stadium, though, which suggests links could be agent driven.”
Makes sense
If Souttar was a right-back and not a centre-back, it would be understandable if Leeds wanted to sign him.
Also, if that were to be the case, Leicester would not want to sell him to the Whites as they’re promotion rivals.
Leeds do not need a centre-back and unless a really good deal for a number 10 is made available, they’re unlikely to sign anyone on Deadline Day apart from a right-back.
As usual, they have left things far too late in the window and hopefully, they do not pay the price for dealing in such a way.
Luke Ayling, Djed Spence and Leo Hjelde have all been shown the door this month, leaving Daniel Farke’s side extremely thin in defence.

Souttar’s lack of game time at the King Power suggests he may not be all that good to begin with, so Leeds must not waste their time.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
