Tottenham star Son Heung-min shares admission about Leeds United loanee Joe Rodon

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Henug-min had admitted that on-loan Leeds United centre-back Joe Rodon is his “closest friend”.

Speaking ahead of South Korea’s friendly against Rodon’s Wales (7 September), the winger is expected to reunite with his former teammate as well as current Spurs players Ben Davis and Brennen Johnson.

The pair have been teammates since Rodon’s move from Swansea City in 2020, but the Welshman’s loan moves to Rennes and the Whites have allowed him just 24 Spurs appearances.

When asked about a reunion with Davis and Johnson, Son responded: “Oh yeah, actually! Don’t forget Joe Rodon as well, my closest friend.”

Wholesome

Son has been frequently touted as one of football’s kindest and he was quick to remember Rodon when asked about the number of potential reunions he will face tonight.

The duo’s friendship has been public knowledge for some time, with Rodon admitting he and Son grew very close very quickly after his move to North London.

As quoted by FootballLondon (16 April 2021), Rodon said: “I’ve got close with Sonny, he’s a great guy. Sonny’s hilarious, whenever you are down, you speak to Sonny and you’ll smile. I’m laughing now just thinking about him. I can’t describe him. He’s a great guy and a great character to have in the dressing room.”

Leeds United

Many laughs will likely be shared when they meet up again when both Son and Rodon face off on Thursday night (7 September) at the Cardiff City Stadium in an international friendly. It will probably be very friendly in nature if these two pals meet on the pitch.

Son must have been devastated when his close friend secured his loan move to Elland Road, but he will be happy for the 25-year-old for the decent start he’s made to life under Daniel Farke.

Rodon will hope his Leeds loan spell can boost his reputation enough to warrant regular game time at Spurs.

In other Leeds United news, wantaway star Willy Gnonto wanted a move to a Bundesliga club right until the transfer deadline.
