Tottenham Hotspur set to step forward with plans to replace Hugo Lloris as they eye Leeds United keeper Illan Meslier

Leeds United keeper Illan Meslier is reportedly on a three-man shortlist as Tottenham Hotspur are looking to replace Hugo Lloris.

According to TEAMtalk journalist Graeme Bailey, this is likely to be the last season for the Frenchman as the number one at Spurs.

Thus, they are stepping forward with their plans to replace him and have Everton ace Jordan Pickford and Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez on the list along with Meslier.

Bailey said, “Hugo Lloris has a deal until 2024, but it is highly unlikely he will be Tottenham number one after this season. He has been up and down and it is understood Tottenham are looking for his long-term replacement. And we can reveal that a number of options are in the Premier League.

“They have been linked to the likes of Jordan Pickford, Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier, and these are the options for them. They really like Sanchez at Brighton – but it is likely that won’t be until the end of the season.”

Jittery

Spurs have the money to offer Leeds a decent transfer fee and Meslier a wage package that makes it worth his while.

Still only 22, he’s got years left before he hits his prime and if he wants to play in the Champions League, one can understand his motive behind moving to North London.

However, the fact that there are two more keepers in the list is a bit of a relief which means Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici will not go all guns blazing on the Frenchman.

Meslier might not want to leave right now, but things could change if an offer comes his way so Leeds must do whatever they can to get a few more years added to his deal.

If that means giving him a salary hike, then so be it as he’s one of the most important players in the side and he’s only getting better with time.

The summer window may prove to be the biggest test of Meslier’s resolve as Antonio Conte could likely ask Spurs to make signing a new goalkeeper their number one transfer priority.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now be looking to sign an award-winning Ligue 1 ace to bring to Elland Road in January.
