Tottenham defender Joe Rodon makes u-turn at Leeds United post Daniel Farke talks
Leeds United defender Joe Rodon, who arrived from Tottenham Hotspur on loan, had discipline issues, according to Ben Jacobs.
The CBS Sport journalist told Give Me Sport on 6 October, that he’s had talks with Daniel Farke and has made a u-turn over his attitude at Elland Road.
The 25-year-old has been a regular for the German and has found his way back into the eleven despite being sent off this season.
Jacobs said, “He obviously came into the side this season and lacked a little bit of discipline. He’s been sent off already this season and I think that Rodon needed a bit of a kick to look at himself in the mirror and regain a little bit of focus and discipline. I think that Daniel Farke wasn’t afraid to be frank with the player and tell him that.
“From what I’m told, Rodon has responded tremendously with his focus, application and discipline, and he showcased that for Leeds in their last victory. That’s another example of Daniel Farke managing a player and realising that a slightly heavier touch was needed to galvanise Rodon.
“Now I think we’re seeing a player that feels that he can stay in that side, lead within that side and keep a bit of a cooler head.”
Apart from showing his tactical nous, Farke has proven to be an exemplary man manager as well and that’s come across in his handling of players.
He dealt with the Willy Gnonto situation pretty well and someone like Marcelo Bielsa may not have shared such a benign view.
As long as it’s translating to a happy dressing room and results on the field of play, nobody will be complaining about his time at the club.
He’s building this team that’s now looking on course to secure a play-offs berth at the very least and perhaps even finish in the top two.
Farke has the experience of promotion as he’s done so with Norwich and he can do the same with Leeds the first time of asking.
Most of his new signings are already looking the part and Leeds appear to have replaced the outgoings pretty well this summer.
