Archie Gray wowed by Mateo Joseph at Leeds United in ‘Amazing’ admission

Archie Gray has been wowed by Mateo Joseph after leaving Leeds United for Tottenham in the summer.

Joseph grabbed headlines after netting a hat-trick in Spain Under-21s’ 4-3 win against Kazakhstan on Thursday (10 October).

The Tottenham midfielder revealed that he remains in touch with Joseph and expressed his desire to test himself against his former teammate soon.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post (14 October), Gray said: “Mateo is doing brilliant. He scored a hat trick, I think it was last night [Thursday, 10 October].

“He’s doing well for Leeds, we came through the ranks together since Under-18s.

“And you know, I’m still really close with him, really good friends, and I’m always looking out for him, how he’s doing.

“It’d be amazing to play against him and I’d really enjoy it.”

Leeds United need to avoid Archie Gray fate for Mateo Joseph

The Whites bagged a hefty sum when they sold Gray to Tottenham for £40million (Fabrizio Romano, 2 July) in the summer, but it does not change the fact that they also lost one of their most talented players.

With Joseph on the rise, Daniel Farke’s side must ensure they hold on to the Spaniard for a longer period.

There is no immediate concern for Leeds as the youngster is contracted to them until 2028 and recently swore allegiance to the club.

However, things can change quickly in football, with Farke admitting that Joseph could be the subject of interest in January if he adds more goals to his tally.

The former Espanyol sensation has one goal and three assists to his name from nine Championship games.

While there are no doubts about his potential, he needs to get on the scoresheet more often to boost Leeds’ chances of promotion this season.

Farke will hope that Joseph’s goalscoring exploits on international duty will help him end his five-game drought at club level.

In other Leeds news, David Norris has urged the club to cut losses on Rasmus Kristensen and sell him as soon as possible.
