MOT View: Top 3 goals of the season – winner a wonder strike born under Bielsa in training

Leeds United might not have scored as many goals as they should have this season but they have scored some absolute crackers.

Here are the Top 3 MOT Leeds goals of the season so far…

3. Mateusz Klich v Boro, November 30

In third place is the screamer from Mateusz Klich against Middlesbrough back in November.

It was notable for a couple of things – first, a short Leeds corner after months of Kalvin Phillips punting the ball in the box aimlessly.

Here, Phillips goes short to Pablo Hernandez and makes a run towards the box.

After getting the ball back, Phillips spots Klich all alone on the edge of the box.

Klich is closed down by the Middlesbrough defence but not before he curls an absolute peach into the top right corner, which gave the goalkeeper no chance.

2. Tyler Roberts v Hull, February 29

Roberts has had a stop-start career at Leeds but he showed he was finally reaching top form in the 4-0 hammering of Hull in February.

Roberts came off the bench to score two goals and one was very close to taking the top spot here.

It’s an amazing team goal that saw the move start deep in Leeds’ own half with Hull in possession.

Six passes later and Tyler Roberts puts the ball in the back of the net. It’s Bielsa-ball at its finest.

1. Luke Ayling v Huddersfield, March 7

There will be some who put a goal of team brilliance above a moment of individual genius, but we’ve got to give our goal of the season so far to the thunder-strike from Ayling.

Jack Harrison has the ball down the left but Ayling has something on his mind. You can see him racing forward here.

He finds himself in masses of space on the edge of the box and signals for Harrison to find him. That’s far from an easy cross though and Harrison hasn’t been the most accurate from the flanks this season.

However, this time he finds an absolute peach of a ball and Ayling catches it perfectly, crashing it off the bar and into the net just a few minutes into the game.

What we really love about this goal, though, is the fact that one eagle-eyed journalist spotted Ayling doing the exact same thing in a training session at Thorp Arch.

In Bielsa we trust.
