'Too naive' - Savage delivers verdict on Leeds' PL return

Robbie Savage has been impressed with how Leeds United have started their Premier League season and rated their performance as four out of five.

Leeds have exploded onto the scene in the Premier League and many have been impressed with Marcelo Bielsa’s brand of football.

Speaking in The Mirror, Savage claimed that the Whites have been a joy to watch but he had some small criticism for last season’s promotion winners.

He said, “Win or lose, they have been a joy to watch and Marcelo Bielsa’s approach has been a breath of fresh air.

“Even at 6-1 down at Old Trafford, they were going for it and the lack of fear factor in their play is fantastic. But they have been a bit too naïve and conceded more goals than anybody so far.”

The fact that Leeds have conceded 30 goals in 14 games will be a concern for Bielsa but it isn’t like his side are struggling at the foot of the table.

Leeds’ style is risky but there is always a danger they will outscore their opponents even if they concede a few goals.

This was the case in the recent 5-2 win over Newcastle United as despite conceding twice, including the opening goal, the Whites didn’t lie down and smashed five goals into the Newcastle net.

The criticism of Leeds’ naivety is symptomatic of the way they play and it could be seen as admirable that Bielsa hasn’t changed his style despite being promoted.

This was obvious from day one as Leeds took the game to Liverpool in the opening match of the season and so nearly secured an impressive point against the reigning champions.

The Premier League is certainly better off with Leeds United in it and we think that most fans of other top-flight clubs would agree as we approach the halfway stage of the season.

In other Leeds United news, David Prutton has warned that Leeds need to be wary ahead of their clash against Burnley.
