‘It’s too late now’ – Club chief claims midfielder Leeds want to sign is not going anywhere

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has addressed reports linking Leeds United and midfielder Nahitan Nández.

The Uruguay international has been linked with a move to Leeds this summer but Giulini has said categorically it’s not going to happen.

Giulini also claimed that striker Giovanni Simeone was a player that Leeds were interested in but said it was “too late” to bring in replacements for either of them.

As quoted in TMW Giulini said, “Both Nandez and Simeone are players that Leeds like, but these players cannot go out in the last few days because we would be weakened.

“It’s too late now, there wouldn’t be time to replace them.”

Players want Leeds

Leeds United are after a midfielder but are on the brink of landing Michael Cuisance.

We’ve not heard of any links between Leeds and Nandez since early September and it seems we moved on a long time ago.

As for a striker, we’re covered there too with Rodrigo currently unable to get a start up-top for Leeds.

Another link with Nandez did appear in TMW earlier on Wednesday, and that’s perhaps why Giulini is talking about Leeds now, but it seems odd for a president to namecheck a club and two players so specifically when we’re working on other deals.

We’re flattered but not entirely surprised to be linked with big-name players, though.

Bielsa’s star was big last season after leading Leeds to the Championship title. It’s even brighter now after a start to the season that’s seen Leeds hold their own against Liverpool in the first game of the season.

The manner in which Leeds played has got many neutrals, as well as the Leeds faithful, excited about the season to come.

And we think Cuisance could take Leeds up another level. Nandez is just going to have to carry on dreaming about Elland Road.
