Tony Dorigo stunned by ‘superb’ Georginio Rutter after ‘wonderful’ moment in 3-0 Leeds United v Birmingham City

Tony Dorigo was left blown away by Leeds United star Georginio Rutter after his “superb” pass which led to the third goal during their 3-0 win over Birmingham City on Monday 1 January.

Leeds returned to winning ways and closed within seven points of the automatic promotion places with a comfortable win over a struggling Blues at Elland Road on New Year’s Day.

Goals from Patrick Bamford, Dan James and Crysencio Summerville ensured the Whites picked up their first win in three games in the Championship and Dorigo, speaking on LUTV (1 January) could not believe what he saw Rutter do for the third goal.

He said: “Fantastic. Absolutely wonderful goal, started initially from Georginio, the ball over the top is just superb.

“A willing runner in Firpo. And when he gets into the box, can you get your head up and find the right pass? The right pass is that man there, Summerville. Because when he gets it, ice runs through his veins, he’s so calm and collected, takes a couple of touches.

“We’ve seen him before, haven’t we, in this sort of area” Just puts it into that bottom corner. Ruddy has absolutely no chance with that one. There’s the chip through. It really is very good.”

Woah

Just how Rutter pulled off that sublime pass will certainly be beyond many neutral fans but not the Leeds United fans who have grown accustomed to his ridiculous brilliance so far this season.

The Frenchman always is at the heart of everything good Daniel Farke’s men do going forward and it showed once again against a pretty poor Birmingham City team.

Rutter even made Patrick Bamford look like something towards his best which only goes to show the huge influence he has over every player in the Leeds United attack right now.

Four goals and nine assists this season is outstanding and he may not have registered his customary contribution against the Blues but he didn’t need to when he performs passes like he did for the third goal.

Whatever chance Leeds United have of making sure they return to the English football summit next season, Rutter alongside Summerville who himself is enjoying an incredible campaign, will be hugely pivotal. Those two talents must be kept fit and happy.

In other Leeds United news, an unexpected injury update has emerged over one surprise absentee from the win over Birmingham, he’s possibly ruled out indefinitely.
