Tony Dorigo: Pascal Struijk to start for Leeds United v Watford
Pascal Struiijk will return to the Leeds United starting line-up on Saturday when they played Watford, according to Tony Dorigo.
Struijk, 22, has been banned for Leeds’ last three matches after his red card against Liverpool.
Youngster Charlie Cresswell has played at centre-back in the last two matches and it seems BT Sport pundit Dorigo reckons Struijk will replace Cresswell in Marcelo Bielsa’s side to play Watford at Elland Road this weekend.
“Struijk will return this weekend against Watford and I’d like to see him playing as he did before the red card,” Dorigo said on the Yorkshire Evening Post website.
“When he first came into the side he offered us physicality, in the air and on the ground. He likes to be strong and get in front of people and it’s really important that he continues to play like that.
“The tackle on Harvey Elliott was just an unfortunate incident – he needs to keep showing that aggression in the right way. It’s what we need from him, especially in a game that has become very important.”
Cresswell doesn’t deserve to be dropped, for what it’s worth.
The 19-year-old has done really well in the last two games and was very unfortunate to have been on the losing side against West Ham.
He had a very difficult job to do against Michail Antonio and for most of the game, the Leeds defender kept the West Ham forward quiet.
Unfortunately, other factors led to us losing against David Moyes’ side.
Struijk will hopefully come in and be an improvement though.
While some fans may not be a fan of Cooper, 30, at centre-back, Struijk is someone who not many people will have complaints about.
He’s tall, good in the air, good with the ball at his feet and hasn’t had too many bad games in our senior side.
With Robin Koch and Diego Llorente still unavailable, Struijk and Cooper are our best centre-back partnership.
We hope to see Cresswell get more chances in the future but right now, we need our senior players in the side and arresting this slump in form.
