Tony Dorigo makes claim about Leeds promotion chances after win, adds cheeky Fulham response
Tony Dorigo has claimed that if Leeds United play as they did against Bristol City for the rest of the season then they will seal promotion back to the Premier League.
Luke Ayling scored the only goal of the game at Elland Road on Saturday as the Whites finally showed signs of getting back to their best.
What helped Leeds even more were the results of other sides in the promotion race, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men being the only ones to pick up maximum points.
West Brom drew with Nottingham Forest, Brentford were held by Birmingham, Preston lost to Millwall and, most surprisingly, Fulham lost 3-0 at home against bottom-of-the-table Barnsley.
Dorigo was impressed with what he saw from Leeds on Saturday but he could not help having a cheeky pop at Fulham’s defeat to the Tykes.
“Delighted for the Leeds boys yesterday, a performance full of character and determination,” the ex-Whites player said via his personal Twitter account.
“Most one-sided 1-0 I’ve seen in ages, that performance until the end of the season gets the job done. Support immense, roof came off for the goal….and the Fulham result!”
Leeds were superb against Bristol City but they really should have won by more goals than they did.
Patrick Bamford missed yet another chance and there were some concerns about the display of Pablo Hernandez, who is yet to get back to his very best after his injury.
But still, those were just two negatives in what was a really positive afternoon for Leeds.
It could not have gone any better.
A clean sheet, three points and the results of other sides made that a perfect day for the Yorkshire giants.
