Tony Cascarino predicts Leeds vs Chelsea clash

Leeds United host Chelsea today and Tony Cascarino can only see his former side taking the points.

The ex-striker spent two years at Stamford Bridge and is a fan of the threat they pose.

He argues Leeds will struggle due to their open style and predicts a rare goal for striker Timo Werner, who has scored once in his last 19 league games.

Cascarino told talkSPORT’s GameDay Breakfast, “I think Leeds are a very good opponent for Chelsea.

“The way Chelsea play and love to counter with space in behind, Chelsea have got loads and loads of space out wide and in the middle.

“I think Timo Werner will score today, I think Leeds are too open for Chelsea.”

Media myth

There seems to be a familiar talking point amongst some sections of the media – mainly talkSPORT – that we are too open or vulnerable at the back.

It is too simplistic to say this – it ignores the injury problems we’ve had at the back and neglects the eight clean sheets we have this season.

Many of the goals we have conceded have come via set-pieces and that is arguably the one aspect of our game that needs most improvement.

A record of 14 goals conceded from set-pieces is the worst in the Premier League (WhoScored) and it was the method West Ham used to win on Monday and in the reverse fixture.

That means Olivier Giroud will be the big threat today if he starts and Diego Llorente will need to be much better against the Frenchman than he was against Craig Dawson.

We imagine Bielsa will have had him watching that corner routine on loop since.

We hope struggling Timo Werner doesn’t find his scoring boots today as Cascarino thinks – he’s only scored one in the last 19.

Leeds could also be boosted by Rodrigo’s return from injury.

Making the game open could be our best chance of success as Chelsea have conceded just two goals in nine games.
