Times journalist blown away by Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams for showing maturity beyond years
Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has shown a “level of maturity and diplomacy” beyond his years, as per Matt Lawton.
The Times journalist has picked Adams, 23, as one of the emerging stars of this World Cup, where he was left impressed by his conduct, both on and off the pitch.
Adams has been hailed as a “skillful” player but the manner in which he handled the press conference ahead of the clash against Iran has been one of the standout moments of the World Cup.

“On the field Tyler Adams has impressed as a reliable, skilful player who marshalled the midfield for team USA at this tournament and emerged as a symbol of their resilience,” wrote Lawton for The Times.
“He represents a grittiness that helped prevent England from beating the USA for a third time at a World Cup. Yet Adams’ most impressive performance in my eyes came off the field, before their group B game against Iran, when tensions were particularly high and the questions went far beyond headers and volleys.
“Quizzed on a series of social and political issues, ranging from immigration to discrimination in the United States, Adams responded with a highly impressive combination of empathy, intelligence and composure.
“The Leeds United midfielder navigated subjects with a level of maturity and diplomacy far beyond his 23 years, and that will remain with me as one of the standout memories from this tournament.”
Future captain?
Adams was outstanding for his country during the World Cup.
He earned high praise from fans and pundits after producing a stellar performance in USA’s 0-0 draw against England.
The midfielder, who joined the Whites in the summer transfer window, has forged a strong midfield partnership alongside Marc Roca at Elland Road.
However, Jesse Marsch should take note of his leadership skills as well. He is already the captain of his nation, and he has all the qualities to be a leader at Leeds in the future.

Lawton is spot on here. That interview with the Iranian journalist shows what a level header person Adams is, and that he is the right man to lead his country on the pitch.
Fox Sports Tv analyst Stu Holden wrote on 25 November that Adams could leave the Whites to join a top European club, but such talks are premature at the moment.
Adams is enjoying his time at Elland Road, and Leeds fans will be hoping that he continues to dazzle in the second half of the campaign.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now scouting an attacker at the World Cup and a January move appears to be on the cards for them.
