Tim Thornton: No reason for Jack Harrison to leave Leeds United
Tim Thornton has suggested there is no reason for Jack Harrison to leave Leeds United as the board look to tie him down to a new deal.
90min reported (16 September) that Leeds want to agree a new contract with the 25-year-old before the January window opens.
Newcastle have been long-term admirers of Harrison and saw a second bid rejected towards the end of the transfer window [The Athletic, 22 August].

Thornton feels the improvement he has made in Yorkshire means he shouldn’t be looking to move elsewhere.
The Sky Sports reporter told GIVEMESPORT [23 September]: “I think he’s improved a lot since he’s been at Leeds, so I don’t think there’s any reason from his point of view to move anywhere else at the moment.
“From a Leeds perspective, the fact that he is a player that’s been sought-after, it makes sense to tie him down on a longer deal.”
Get it done
Leeds really need to get the winger tied down to new terms before the January transfer window does arrive. Harrison has under two years left on his current deal in Yorkshire and can’t be lost for free when his contract does expire.
The 25-year-old winger is at the peak of his powers right now and will only see his value decrease after January due to his age and his contract situation. If Newcastle come in a meet the club’s valuation in January then it may be hard for the Whites to turn down if he hasn’t signed a new deal.

It is crucial that his contract negotiations don’t become the centre of attention at Elland Road with the English winger proving to be a vital cog in Jesse Marsch’s side. His crossing and dribbling ability has seen Harrison rack up three assists and one goal in six games this season.
Ensuring that he keeps up this form is vital. Too often we see contract negotiations cause a dip in form and the club must ensure that doesn’t happen with Harrison.
In other Leeds United news, an Elland Road-linked midfielder is now certain to leave his club in the coming weeks as a host of Premier League clubs are vying for his services.
